Spookley the Square Pumpkin

Spookley the Square Pumpkin is MY favorite Halloween book. We have had the book for three years now, and I look forward to reading it to the boys each Fall. Our book came with a CD, the author reads the book, and then there are two songs. My boys love the songs, and listening to the book in the car. I highly recommend this book - the movie is not my favorite, but the boys like it. You can check out Spookley here, http://www.spookley.com/.

You Swallowed WHAT???

Yesterday afternoon, Wilson, Holden and Canyon were playing LEGO Star Wars. Holden came running upstairs, and told Ken and me that he had swallow a LEGO. He kept pointing to his throat, and telling us it was stuck. Ken and I looked at each other, and didn't know what to do. We had him go and get a LEGO like the one he had swallowed, and this is what he brought us.

Ken had him drink some water, and then we decided to run him over to my Anut Becky, because she was a nurse, and so she would know what to do. I was so mad at him, because I am constantly teling him to get the LEGOS out of his mouth (I know I am a bad mom). Becky had him drink water, and at eat bread. He was fine, so now we just have to wait for it to move its way through the body...

My mom and dad called me this afternoon, and told me to check out this comic strip. The timing is ironic for our family!

Halloween Fun

I can't believe the stuff that people come up with....I am so grateful for people that share their talents! There are so many bloggers out their that are so creative. I have found some really fun stuff for Halloween, and these are a few of my favorites!
I printed some BOO cards, and the calling cards yesterday. The boys and I had so much fun playing this game. I noticed a new post with Spook, a large "bingo" card today, but for my little guys this size is just right! If you would like to get this for yourself here is a link to the blog http://preparednotscared.blogspot.com/2010/10/boo.html. This blog has some amazing stuff!

When I saw this I cracked up! It is already printed and on display. I am sure Ken will appreciate this one:) Get this one here.

I also love this little handout for Visiting Teaching. I can't wait to make a Halloween treat, and deliver this. Get this one here.

These are just a few quick and easy things I have found lately. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

The Things I do for my Boys!

Wilson and Holden love LEGO. They check out the LEGO website every chance they get. They found the instructions (or maps as they call them) to make a bat and Frankenstein. I spent who knows how much time finding the right pieces in their LEGO containers...
...and this is what I made. They were both so excited!

Gratitude

I love President Monson's talk from General Conference, , The Divine Gift of Gratitude. I have thought about this talk over and over since General Conference. I have particularly thought about this quote, "A grateful heart, then, comes through expressing gratitude to our Heavenly Father for His blessings and to those around us for all that they bring into our lives. This requires conscious effort—at least until we have truly learned and cultivated an attitude of gratitude. Often we feel grateful and intend to express our thanks but forget to do so or just don’t get around to it. Someone has said that “feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it." When I heard that quote, I thought about the countless times, in the last seven years, I have thought about writing a letter of thanks to the Holmes family. I have expressed my gratitude, for this family, to my Heavenly Father many, many times, but never to the Holmes'.

This morning, I read Ashley's blog about her trip to Detroit to see her family. As I looked at the pictures, I was overwhelmed again with gratitude. Stone and Josef were both asleep, so I decided to write a letter to Doug and Erin. I have been teary all morning recalling the 13 months I spent with the Holmes', and the many lessons I learned from them (and so now of course I have a wonderful headache).

After lunch, I picked up the mail, and guess what was there??? ...a letter from Ashley...it was a thank you card from her wedding gift. Then of course the tears started again... In her letter she wrote, "I know Ken going to Iraq was not the greatest wedding present you got - but it was the best blessing I've had in my life." She went on to say some very complimentary things, some of which I am not sure I deserve:)

This morning in the letter to her parents I wrote, "It is amazing how, when we are faithful during adversity, we are blessed immensely, and those trials are somehow turned into blessings. Looking back almost eight years later, I can’t believe how Ken’s deployment completely changed our lives forever. I will be forever grateful you opened up your home to me. What a blessing that was, and it is a blessing that continues still today. I learned so much in those 13 months. "

I am truly so grateful for the tender mercies of the Lord. I know that He is aware of us in our individual circumstances. I am also so grateful for people that listen to the spirit, and help our Heavenly Father answer prayers.

This picture was taken when I lived with the Holmes', seven years ago this Christmas.

These pictures were taken in the Summer. The kids have all grown up so much, and of course there is the wonderful addition of Taylor. What can I say about Doug & Erin? Well, they still look great!

Saying Goodbye

This morning I dressed Josef is some shorts, because it is suppose to be 90 degrees today. His lips were purple so I put some more clothes on him. I thought I would try a hoodie and see how he did, so we would know if he will wear one for his Halloween costume. I also put him in his "bones" baby legs since it is October 1st!

He was so cute walking around, so I got my camera, and this is what he was doing. Wilson had gone outside to wait for his ride to school, and so he and Josef were having a little goodbye. Aren't they cute?
